ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT IN BRIEF

The Department of Business Administration (DBA) is the pioneer in introducing the first Management Degree in Sri Lanka. It is the oldest and the largest Department in the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. It primarily offers interdisciplinary study programmes aimed at producing competent generalist in business management. Currently, it serves about 750 internal undergraduates and more than 21,000 active external undergraduates. The Business Administration Degree has a history of more than fifty years as the pioneering and leading Degree programme in the field of Management Education in Sri Lanka. It has earned much popularity and recognition from its inception. Its study programmes are continually being upgraded and redesigned to produce versatile business leaders to cater to the emerging demands and challenges of the ever changing world of work.

OUR STRATEGIC INTENT
The strategic intent of the Department of Business Administration is to produce total quality versatile management graduates who would.contribute immensely towards socioeconomic advancement as visionary and innovative strategy-oriented leaders in successfully initiating and managing business organisations towards superior performance with an.entrepreneurial insight, enterprise-wide focus and ethical spirit.

THE UNIQUENESS OF THE DEPARTMENT
  • It is the pioneering academic Department in the university system for introducing the first management degree in Sri Lanka.
  • It is the oldest academic Department of Management Education in the university system of Sri Lanka.
  • It is the largest academic Department in the university system of Sri Lanka (About 750 internal students and More than 21,000 active external students).
  • It is the highest employment generating Department in the field of "Management and Business Administration" in Sri Lanka.
  • It has produced the highest number of Professors in the field of "Management and Business Administration" in Sri Lanka.
  • It is the only academic Department which has parented in creating the highest number of academic departments in the field of "Management and Business Administration" in Sri Lanka.

THE DISTINCTIVE IDENTITY OF OUR STUDY PROGRAMMES
Our study programmes integrate knowledge of all functional areas of management and knowledge from multiple disciplines while focusing on critical perspectives; the curricula have been designed to develop students' creativity and innovation, productivity and quality consciousness, leadership and strategy orientation. Hence, the core courses of the degree programme include interdisciplinary courses such as Organisational Behaviour, Entrepreneurship, Knowledge Management, Organisational Culture and Leadership, Managing for Productivity and Quality, Strategic Management, International Business Management, Organisational Change and Development etc. with a view to produce competent generalists in management. Hence, the Department is committed to mould total quality versatile management graduates in line with the strategic intent of the Department.
